Build your custom frame bag
Every bike is different.
Every journey is even more so.
Not to mention every rider.
That’s why, alongside our standard catalog, Kicking Donkey creates custom-made bags, designed based on your bike’s geometry and your actual riding style. We don’t just adapt an existing bag; we build it from scratch for you. Custom craftsmanship has always been our hallmark—the very thing that helped us quickly gain recognition among so many cyclists.
On this page, you can start the customization process by configuring your bespoke frame bag using our dedicated form.
Read the instructions on what you’ll need to customize your bag, then select the dimensions, materials, compartments, colors, internal layout, and functional details. Take the photos correctly (THIS IS CRUCIAL), upload them along with your bike measurements, and place your order—we’ll handle the rest.
Which bag do you want to customize?

Half Frame Bag
Ideal if you want to keep space for one or more water bottles inside the frame triangle. The custom half-frame bag is for those seeking a good balance between carrying capacity, accessibility, and low weight, without altering the bike’s classic setup.

Full Frame Bag
The Full Frame is the solution that maximizes the available space within the frame triangle. This custom-made bag is designed for bikepacking trips and off-road adventures, featuring centrally distributed weight to enhance stability and control.

Shaped Full Frame Bag
This is a highly customized version of the Full Frame bag, designed for those who want to combine storage capacity with easy access to water bottles. This special bag is custom-shaped to integrate one or two bottle cages, without compromising on functionality or volume.
How personalization works
The process is simple and guided:
- choose the type of frame bag best suited to your bike
- select the materials and colors
- decide on zippers, compartments, and internal configuration
- take and upload the photos and bike measurements correctly, following the instructions below
- receive the quote/design, confirm it, and we begin production
How to prepare your bike and take photos for your custom frame bag
Step 1 – Prepare your bike
Grab your bicycle and an easy-to-read measuring tool (tape measure, ruler, or rigid measuring stick).
Tape the measuring tool to the frame, making sure that:
- the numbers are clearly visible
- the tool does not cover the inner edges of the frame triangle
- it does not hide bolts, bosses, or mounting points
This helps us correctly position the Velcro straps and attachment systems.
If you are ordering a FULL FRAME bag (standard or compact): you can leave bottle cages, water bottles, pumps, or any other accessories inside the triangle, but please remove any other bags mounted there.
If you are ordering a HALF FRAME bag (upper section only): you can leave bottle cages mounted—and, crucially, keep the water bottles in place—so we can assess the space they take up.
If you plan to use other frame bags (top tube, tank bag, downtube bag, etc.), mount them on the bike: this helps us see where the straps run and how best to integrate the attachment points.
Step 2 – Position yourself and take the photos
Position the bike against a wall or a light-colored background in a well-lit area.
Using tape or the help of an assistant, secure the tape measure to the top tube of your frame so that the centimeter markings are clearly visible.
This step is crucial and will allow us to take precise measurements using software.
Ensure the bicycle is:
- perfectly upright
- positioned so the crank arms do not obscure the frame triangle
Set your camera to take high-resolution photos: dark, grainy, or unzoomable photos will require the step to be repeated, delaying production!
Always shoot in landscape orientation.
First photo – full bike, one side
Sit or crouch on the ground, about 2 meters away from the bike.
Position yourself at a 90° angle to the frame (both horizontally and vertically).
Frame the entire bicycle, including both wheels.
Aim the lens roughly at the center of the frame triangle.
Check that:
- the photo is not blurry
- the measuring tape is clearly legible even when zooming in on the image
Second photo – full bike, other side
Turn the bicycle around to show the other side of the frame.
Move the measuring tape to the opposite side.
Take a second photo from the same vantage point as the first.
Check the image quality again.
Third photo – your measurements
Now grab the measuring tape, paper, and a pen.
Use the tape to take these 4 measurements—A, B, C, and D—as shown in the demonstration photo.
Sketch (even without perfect precision) the 4 tubes for which we need the measurements. Alternatively, you can print the reference image we have prepared for you here.
Mark the four measurements on the sheet where you have drawn (or printed) the outline of the frame triangle.
Take a photo of the sheet; you will need to upload it as the third photo in the configurator form.
These measurements will provide the exact confirmation we need to proceed with the project.

Step 3 – Fill out the configurator form
Depending on the bag model you choose, click on “half-frame bag,” “full-frame bag,” or “compact full-frame bag” in the menu at the top of this page. Fill out the entire form by uploading the three images you created and selecting colors, zippers, mounting options, extras, and any other customizations you desire; please specify in the text box which color(s) you would like for the various sections of the bag.
Submit the form and wait. You will receive a summary email listing all your selections.
If anything is unclear, we will contact you via email.
Step 4 – Checking the template on the bike
Once your frame bag template has been created, we will send you a printable PDF file.
You will be able to:
- print the template
- cut it out
- test-fit it directly on your bike
This step allows you to:
- make any minor adjustments
- ensure the bag integrates perfectly with the frame
We will only proceed with production after receiving your final confirmation.

What Is a Custom Frame Bag – Made-to-Measure Bikepacking Frame Bag
The Kicking Donkey Custom Frame Bag is a bikepacking frame bag designed and handmade in Italy, built exactly around your bike’s geometry.
Each bag is made only to order, once all the customization details have been defined: dimensions, materials, colors, and internal layout.
A made-to-measure frame bag makes the most of the available space inside the frame triangle, keeping the weight centered on the bike and improving stability, control, and comfort, especially on long trips and off-road adventures.

Materials and Construction of the Frame Bag
Our made-to-measure frame bags are made with waterproof, abrasion-resistant technical fabrics.
We use multi-layer laminated X-Pac materials, waterproof up to 13.8 bar of pressure, chosen to last over time and withstand vibration, mud, and rain.
- reinforced bag perimeter in the areas subject to the most stress
- 5 mm plastic zippers, lightweight and durable
- front cable port for lights or electronic devices
- velcro fastening system for maximum stability
A note on waterproofing:
the materials used are highly waterproof, but the bags are sewn, not welded.
In case of heavy, prolonged rain, we recommend protecting items that need to stay completely dry by using internal nylon dry bags.
